I am a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Konstanz, where I am affiliated with the Chair of International Relations. I have recently received my PhD from the Graduate School of Decision Sciences at Konstanz. To broaden my experience, I have been a visiting researcher at Princeton University and the University of Maryland, College Park.
My research is concerned with the territorial sources of subnational demands for self-determination. I propose a comprehensive approach to analyzing various dimensions of territorial value, and investigate why groups demand self-determination, why they choose which conflict strategy, and when demands are successful. Symbolic attachments to the contested territory are crucial to account for all these processes.
In addition, I am interested in the role of elites in sovereignty referendums.
My work has been published in Comparative Political Studies.
